History of Diya |

Diya Foundation is a social welfare and charitable society registered in India on 2nd April, 2003 under the Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860 with the registration no. S/45834 of 2003.
It was founded by a group of likeminded doctors, professionals and entrepreneurs with common aim of upliftment of the underprivileged, improvement in the living conditions of slum children and providing help for the destitute old people.
On 20th April, 2003 it commenced operations by setting up ‘Diya Vidya Mandir' a school for the slum children at Nihal Vihar, Nangloi,New Delhi. The school was started in a one room rented accommodation with 20 students. In March, 2004 land was purchased for new school building for Diya Vidya Mandir. In July, 2005 Diya Vidya Mandir shifted to its own new school building and now has on its rolls 160 students who are being provided free education, mid day meals, uniforms and regular healthcare.
Diya Foundation does not have any corpus fund at present and all its expenses are met out of voluntary donations. It is registered as a charitable society under the Income-tax Act, 1961 (of India) and all donations to Diya Foundation are eligible for tax deduction in India under section 80 G of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
The Foundation is also registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 1976 in India. Vide Registration No 231660815 and is authorised to accept Foreign Contributions. |
